Tampa Bay Kingfish and Mackerel are here in Tampa Bay

Published November 1st, 2010 by Capt Jason Prieto

Weather has been great and water temperature has hit that magical number for the Mackerel and Kingfish to show up on the coast of Tampa Bay and St Petersburg. These two species are some of the best fighting fish saltwater fishing has to offer, not to mention great eating. Finding them is pretty easy, just look for birds diving on bait pods and hard bottom. Lots of chum bait will also help as this will lure the schools right to your boat. Rigging is fairly simple I like to use #25 wire matched with a 3/0 Daiichi circle hook tied together with a haywire twist. Sometimes you can add a stinger rig which is a trailer hook for short strikes. Kingfish and Mackerel are a great species to target.
