Snapper and Snook Fishing Awesome for Summer

Published July 9th, 2017 by Capt Jason Prieto

July is here and the heat is in full force. The heat has not slowed the fishing as the bite is hot. One of my favorite fish to target this time of year is Mangrove Snapper. They move into the bay and you will find plenty of Snapper on just about every wreck or reef around. This matched with light tackle spinning gear makes for some awesome fishing. The key with Snapper is to get plenty of chum bait to draw them off the bottom. Using just a little to no weight matched with 20lb leader and a #1 circle hook will do the trick.

Snook fishing is also very good and should continue throughout the summer. You can expect to catch plenty of small Snook and a good chance of getting a trophy fish from time to time. Tarpon season this year has really been tough but the bay Tarpon are also showing up. Picking the right tides will be key to catching the silver king. This time of year you will want to watch the afternoon storms as they tend to be extreme.
