New Year Equals Open Trout Season and good fishing

Published January 2nd, 2011 by Capt Jason Prieto

Well the new year is here and fishing is good and going to get better. January brings cold weather and some of the best Trout fishing of the year. We are catch Trout in numbers up to 50 fish a day and now the the season has opened for the south region, its time to go find some dinner. Trout are on just about every healthy flat in Tampa Bay this time of year. My technique is pretty simple, find a good healthy flat and anchor up or drift fanning out your cast to cover a lot of area. Artificials are my #1 choice of bait this time of year but shrimp is also a great option. I like to throw the DOA 4 inch CAL baits which are very productive and easy to learn how to throw. We have seen good numbers of smaller Redfish around the rivers, docks, and creeks and really like shrimp and artificials as well. Fishing has been great and now is the time to go fishing.
